ルカニ村便り/Habari kutoka Lukani - Lukani up date・2010・No.1

In 2010 the weather in Lukani village and surround area seems to be very good for cultivation of maize and other related crops from the beginning of the January 2010. Most of the farmers didn't get any product from their farm because of drought. So they have put all their hope for this year. Luckily the rain started early, even before the end of 2009. We experienced some showers in September and October, which enable many crops like banana and coffee to have a good growing and production. Now the villagers are busy to plant maize in lower areas and even some are in the upper areas.

Production about coffee in this year the farmers didn't get much a best due to long period of sunshine last year. They expected to continue with preparing a water stream from the forest, but due to luck of fund the project have stopped.

Lukani Lossa Coorperative Society have bought about ten thousand coffee seedlings in order to sell to the farmer for an affordable price. This process of selling a new coffee seedlings shall start earlier of April 2010. The Coorperative have signed a contract of coffee in order to supply a clean Lukani coffee for the next four years.

　2010年の1月からルカニ村とその周辺地域での天候は、トウモロコシや他の穀物の耕作をするのにとても良いように思われます。しかし昨年は雨季が短く雨は少ししか雨降りませんでした。ほとんどの農民は、旱魃のために作物を得ることができませんでした。だから彼らは今年に望みをかけています。幸運にも、雨季は2009年末より前に始まりました。9月、10月に降った雨は、バナナやコーヒーなどの作物の生長と生産量を良くしました。今は村人たちは、低地でまた高地でもトウモロコシの植え付けに忙しくしています。

　 　今年のコーヒーの生産量については、昨年の長い日照りのために、農民たちはあまりたくさん収穫することができませんでした。彼らは森からの水路建設プロジェクトの続行を期待していましたが、資金不足のためにその事業はストップしています。

　 　ルカニロッサ協同組合は約1万本のコーヒーの苗木を買いました。それは農民たちに手ごろな値段で販売するためです。この新しいコーヒーの苗木を販売するプロジェクトは、2010年の4月から始められるでしょう。また協同組合は、新鮮なルカニコーヒーの取引を４年間行う契約にサインしました。
