Coffee Study Tour 2011 アレックス･シラー Alex SILAA
This year 2011, Lukani villagers had welcomed 10 guests from Japan, for coffee study tour. Main purpose of their visit is to study about the coffee growers, their challenges and problem they are facing before selling their coffee to consurmers. Not only that but also to see and find out the atmosphere that made coffee grows in that particular area even if they have studied about this environment in some books but they wanted to see themselves. So 10 visitors from Japan pay a visit to Lukani this year in September, with their Host Prof. H.Tsujimura from Kyoto University who have being conducting a coffee research for more than ten years in Lukani village
The Coffee Field It was really observed that so many changes had happened within a short period of time. This was caused by unstable price of coffee, climate change etc. So these reasons make the coffee growers to face a very hard life in which later they decided to cut their coffee tree and grow other cash crops like maize
Future of coffee Growers in Lukani It is really observed that after the price of coffee rise suddenly and after being assured of future markert in Japan，many villagers are now trying to increase planting of new variety of coffee seedlins, only to find that they don't have water to irrigate the coffee field. So now the village is trying to find a means of getting a government intervetion to make a water stream.
Visit of Coffee Study Tour The visit of coffee study tour had awaking, Lukani villager to have a new hope for their coffee future. They think their problem and the challenges have reached to the consumers through their observation that means bringing the solution of getting this water stream more closer. Now the people of Lukani think that they have the partners who shares the happiness of having a good cup of pure Kilimanjaro coffee and a good price.

今年2011年、ルカニ村の人びとは、日本からコーヒースタディーツアーの10人のお客さんを迎えました。このツアーの主要な目的は、コーヒーの生産者が消費者に売る前に抱えている課題、困難を学ぶことです。 また、それだけではなく、コーヒーが実際に育成されている特定の場所、環境を見ることも目的です。たとえ、それまでに何らかの本で学習していたとしても、実際に自分の目で見てみたいのです。 そこで、この9月、案内役の辻村英之京大准教授を含めた10人が日本からルカニ村を訪れました。辻村さんは10年以上にわたって、ルカニ村でコーヒーの調査を行っています。
コーヒー畑 短い期間に多くの変化が起こったことが、実感をもって見られました。それは、コーヒー価格の不安定さ、天候の変化などによって、引き起こされたものです。こうした変化のため、コーヒー生産者は生活の困難に直面し、コーヒーの樹を切り倒し、トウモロコシのような換金作物を植えるようになりました。
ルカニ村のコーヒー生産者の将来 コーヒー価格が急に上昇し、また日本での市場が保証されたことにより、多くの村人たちは、様ざまな種類の新しい苗木を植えようとしています。が、苗木にやる水が足りないという問題に直面しています。 そこで、現在、村は地方政府の支援を受けて、水路を作る方法を模索しています。
コーヒースタディーツアーの訪問 コーヒースタディーツアーの訪問は刺激的で、ルカニの村人たちは自分たちのコーヒーの将来に新たな希望を持たせています。自分たちの課題、困難は、このツアーの観察によって消費者に伝わり、水路の問題を解決できる日が近いことを感じています。 ルカニ村の人びとは、今や、美味しい一杯のピュアなキリマンジャロ・コーヒーを、安い値段で楽しめる幸福を共有できるパートナーがいることを考えています。
